Lady Dartmouth was leery about hiring her Dutch maid for Aleta spoke very little English. After a few days, however, Lady Dartmouth grew fond of the short, predominantly one-sided conversations that were punctuated by wild gestures to really make sure everything was clear. Aleta always replied in the affirmative and Lady Dartmouth was confident that her maid understood her completely.

Lady Dartmouth had spent months planning and preparing for an important Ladies Society gathering she was hosting at her estate. She had artfully plotted to ensure the meeting would take place in her grand home so she could make an impression. The group was gathering to discuss plans for helping the poor in the nearby village, especially the children. Lady Dartmouth was hoping the event would help her win the upcoming election for president. Everything had to be perfect.
