Santa, Did You Hear Me?

Little Suzie was determined that this year's Christmas would be nothing like the last one. The year before, Suzie had been quietly playing in her room when her parents surprised her by opening her door and telling her to put on her coat. It wasn't until they pulled up to Macy's department store that she realized they were taking her to see Santa. She had been furious because she had yet to prepare her Christmas list. As they got out of the car and made their way to the line for Santa, Suzie frantically tried to think of what she really wanted for Christmas. The more she tried thinking, the more flustered she got. Suddenly it was her turn to get on Santa's knee and she blurted out the first thing that came to her mind: "I want a new winter coat and a black beret" she stammered. The whole thing was a disaster.

This year was going to be different. Suzie started compiling her list in July, finalized it by October, and then recited the list over and over before going to bed each night. Her spectacular line of gifts were etched in her brain. When December rolled around, Suzie just smiled when her parents knocked on her door. She donned her stupid Christmas gifts from the year before and climbed into the car. ...
