Grandma "No-Nonsense" Beatrice

Beatrice was a stern woman who grew up during the Great Depression and had no patience for laziness of tomfoolery. She believed that hard work, chores, and honesty were the best thing for a person. When it came to raising her two sons and daughter, it was done in a traditional, no-nonsense manner. Her sons grew up to become and doctor and a lawyer, but her daughter was a different story. When she married an anthropologist and then had a daughter of her own, Grandma Beatrice was worried about her granddaughter Elizabeth. Her daughter and son-in-law embraced the new fandangled liberalism and free-spirited, whimsical ways of childrearing. When Elizabeth came to visit, she would bring several toys and run around the yard pretending she was in some magical fantasy land. Grandma Beatrice would frown in disapproval. 

One day, Beatrice's daughter came over and explained that her husband was given the opportunity to study a recently discovered tribe hidden deep in the Amazon jungle. She would be accompanying him and asked Beatrice if she would be willing to take care of Elizabeth. The trip would last several months and fall over Christmas. Grandma Beatrice was thrilled at the prospect and wholeheartedly agreed to help. Elizabeth was going to get a good dose of no-nonsense upbringing and that could only be a good thing. ...
